Organization sustainability audit

Sometimes it’s just good to take stock of where you are now, and to get an idea of where you could be in the future if you went down certain paths. A sustainability audit uses an environmental lens to look at your organization’s operations and help you pinpoint potential business opportunities and risks. Through discussions with employees, observations of building operations, and analysis of utility bills, we will help you analyze key areas such as:

  • Product purchasing habits
  • Electricity, water, gas, and fuel consumption
  • Information technology resources
  • Waste stream composition and quantities
  • Transportation requirements
  • Integration into a sustainable environment
  • Engagement of external stakeholders
  • Other areas, at your request

From these combined data you will receive a detailed report for each audited area, which identifies potential opportunities and risks and offers recommendations that you can use to become more sustainable, while improving your bottom line.

Sustainability plans

A Sustainability Plan crystallizes your financially-based short-term and long-term goals. Our approach to developing your Sustainability Plan:

  • Is systematic and comprehensive
  • Engages internal and external stakeholders
  • Employs interdisciplinary techniques and an interdisciplinary team
  • Results in a plan that integrates all key areas
  • Uses a life cycle assessment perspective

Plans can be big or small, narrowly-focused or broadly-reaching, so please do not hesitate to contact us. We welcome any questions and are happy to discuss your situation and your needs.

Sustainability plan implementation

A solid plan without solid execution is worthless. If you need help prioritizing and executing a sustainability plan (even if we didn't help you develop it) we can help. We provide experienced project management and facilitation services to ensure the successful on-time and on-budget implementation of any plan initiative. We can help you set priorities, develop action plans for priority areas, and lay out a timeline delineating the next steps. We believe that our job also is to help you develop the internal capacity to identify, manage and implement new sustainability initiatives in an ever-changing future. Basically, our job is to help you not need us!

Financing: grants, rebates, tax credits, incentives

Like any other business endeavor, sustainability initiatives must be supported by viable business cases. Fortunately, financial incentives are often available to improve business cases for a range of energy efficiency activities, renewable energy installations, and clean tech research projects, among others. TerraLocke identifies financing opportunities based on your organization’s characteristics and then manages the application process to obtain the needed funds. TerraLocke also can help you modify your sustainability initiatives, where appropriate, to maximize financial incentives.

Greenhouse gas inventory quantification

A greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory is an accounting of greenhouse gases emitted to or removed from the atmosphere from human activities over a specific period of time. It is usually the first step towards reducing GHG emissions, and typically completed before implementing a climate action plan. An inventory can establish a baseline for tracking emission trends, monitoring the relative contributions of emission sources, developing mitigation strategies, and assessing progress.

These days, many companies are not only quantifying their own greenhouse gas emissions, but also are asking companies in their supply chain to do the same.

Conducting a greenhouse gas inventory does not need to be overwhelming or burdensome. It can even have financial, and other, payoffs. The GHG-IQ professionals on the TerraLocke team will help you sail through your first GHG inventory smoothly, and will make sure you have in place a system for tracking, recording and reporting your GHG emissions easily into the future.
